Dream Shadow

I walk in my dream in silent sun

On a long forgotten trail

I look beside me to see you there

But my wish is of no avail

I see your shadow next to mine

Keeping pace with the shadow of me

It fades and dims from time to time

When the sun hides behind a tree

I wish so much to see your face

Just one more time would do

I long to hear your sweetest laugh

That is such a part of you

But each time I look beside me now

There is only your shadow there

Each time I listen for your voice

I hear only the stillness of the air

I walk a while and watch the sun

As it glides on westward wings

As your shadow fades I try to run

And in my heart the silence sings

The sun now sets upon my dream

Your shadow grows long and thin

I know it will fade and only seem

That a new day will soon begin
